Summer is here! The onset of warm weather can bring along a host of other health problems as well that range from simple ones like a headache, skin rashes, sunburns, etc. to severe ones like measles, jaundice, food poisoning, and more.
Quick tips to prevent summer-related health problems:
- Drink plenty of water and stay well hydrated and also can include coconut water, lime water, buttermilk, herbal tea, etc.
- Eat small frequent meals and avoid having heavy meals at one time. Especially prefer light dinner as during summer it takes a longer time to digest.
- Eat summer veggies like lauki, cucumber, ivy gourd, etc. Avoid eating too much heat-producing food like meat, chicken, and limit/ reduce salt intake.
- Eat more cooling foods like watermelon, tomatoes, cucumber, mint, fennel seeds, etc.
- Prefer lighter snacks over fried/ heavy snack. E.g. nuts, fruits, seeds, etc.
- Eat some berries as they are high in antioxidants.
- Use sunscreen with a higher SPF to prevent skin damage. And reapply it every 2-3 hourly.
- Do not eat outside food instead prefer well-cooked and home food only.
- Avoid fried, processed, sugary and junk food.
- Avoid drinking aerated, caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.
- Don’t exercise vigorously during the hottest times of the day. Instead, walk, jog, or exercise in the cooler part of the day.
- Prefer cotton, light-colored, loose clothing instead of dark colors.
- When outdoor, wear sunglasses that help to block ultraviolet rays.
- Wear a hat or scarf to avoid direct exposure to the sun.
- Wash your hand nicely before cooking and eating.
